Shelly Cermak has extensive experience in the biotechnology, biochemical, and chemical technology fields and concentrates her practice in patent drafting, prosecution, licensing, and opinion matters. Shelly has worked in the field of intellectual property since 1989, practicing as a patent attorney or agent since 1995 and with six years’ experience as a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office in the biotechnology group. Shelly has assisted clients with intellectual property matters in technology areas including molecular biology, protein manipulation and purification, gene manipulation and therapy, prokaryotic and eukaryotic recombinant expression systems, antigen/antibody technologies, pharmaceuticals and drug development, organic compounds and synthesis methods, amino acid technologies for agricultural and nutritional uses, and virology.
After leaving the USPTO, Shelly spent several years consulting with various university technology transfer offices to help them establish in-house patent prosecution systems; and more recently she has provided similar services for corporate clients.
